light and dark and thems in-between

I decided that I need to brush up on my realism. As I painted the white backdrop (still in progress, btw) I thought about what makes a good painting. The juxtoposition of very light and very dark makes the painting pop. While shades of gray are necessary- it is the highlights and deepest of shadows that cause the painting to come alive. In meditating this- the same may go for my life as a Christian. They say that life is not black and white- it is true- life has many gray areas. Yet it is in the great darkness of the world that I can be a light. It may not make me a masterpiece, but it will put a lot of life in the canvas that is me.
